Program Summary

Develop the Future is a semester-long program where high school ICT students pitch and prototype their own iOS apps, gaining hands-on experience in mobile app development. Managed by the Career Education Council (CEC), this program helps students build industry-ready skills in coding and problem-solving to better prepare them for future careers in technology and STEM fields. As a mentor, you'll provide more than just technical guidance—you'll coach the next generation of mobile developers, software engineers, and UX/Ul designers, fostering accountability and personal growth.

We are currently seeking post-secondary mobile computing students and industry professionals to serve as mentors, guiding these students through both the technical and creative aspects of app development. Mentorship opportunities are available in both British Columbia and Ontario, providing flexible after-hours support options for students in different regions.

  • Mentor 1-3 students* over a 17-week period as they work on app development projects. You'll answer questions, help them overcome challenges, and foster accountability, guiding them through semester-long app development projects.

  • Share your expertise in Swift, Xcode 14+, and app development best practices to help students build their technical skills.

  • Assist students in planning, designing, and implementing their app projects, offering guidance on project management and coding techniques.

  • Maintain ongoing communication with a CEC manager through regular check-ins via email, virtual meetings, or other forms of communication to ensure optimal student progress and mentor support.

  • Celebrate your students' achievements through an App Showcase and online workshops, championing their success and growth throughout the program.

*Students are typically distributed 3 per mentor with flexibility to take on more or fewer students.
